Fairtrade Fortnight Coffee Morning

 It's Fairtrade Fortnight, and I passed by the Fairtrade stall on the Thursday Market this morning.

They will be holding a coffee morning at Eighteen Rabbit, the Fairtrade shop in the middle of Hay, on Thursday 9th March, from 10am to 1pm, with a special guest all the way from Uganda.

Jenipher has been organising Ugandan coffee farmers (many of them women), and they now market their own brand of Fairtrade coffee, which is available at Eighteen Rabbit.  She will be talking about how the coffee is made, and there will be samples (suggested donation is £1).

Fairtrade Fortnight

For Fairtrade Fortnight this year, these talks will be starting at Haymakers, which sells the silverwork and leatherwork from Timbuktu, going on to the Wholefood Shop, which sells Zaytoun products, and finishing at the Eighteen Rabbit shop.

The shop filled up quite rapidly, and Andrew was the perfect host, filling up the glasses of bubbly. They have a lot more room in the shop on Lion Street, including an alcove off to one side for clothes, with a changing room.
One lady was taking the opportunity to buy a Diamond Wedding gift for a friend, by buying a cotton Eighteen Rabbit bag and filling it with soap and body cream and other small gifts, all wrapped in orange paper.
They also sell jewellery (some of it recycled from bullets), rugs, pottery, Mexican mirrors, wooden toys, and even a few books.

Drinks will be available from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday evening, to celebrate the opening of the new shop.

Eighteen Rabbit Moves to Lion Street

You really can't miss the Fairtrade presence in the middle of Hay now!
Eighteen Rabbit started off as a pop-up shop at Hay Castle, and stayed. Now they've moved down to Lion Street, to a bigger shop. This used to be Lion Antiques until a couple of weeks ago, when the antique dealers retired.

Browsing the Web

While browsing through some blogs today, I came across Kindred of the Quiet Way. In her post on 23rd January, she writes a very good piece about the Cambodian ear-rings she bought from Eighteen Rabbit (online, but their shop is up at the Castle).
This reminded me that I hadn't added them to the side bar of this blog yet, so that oversight has now been rectified, and their online shop is available to be looked at.
